History

The Swiss Informatics Foundation was founded by ECDL-SI, a tax-exempt, non-profit association that was instrumental in bringing ECDL (European Certificate of Digital Literacy) to Switzerland.

The Swiss Informatics Foundation has been established to allow support of projects that target the general population’s knowledge about the development, technology, application and effects of Informatics and related areas. ECDL-SI’s officers at the time of establishing the foundation were Beat Lehmann (President), Hermann Knoll (Vice-President), Thomas Stricker (Secretary) and Helmut Schauer (Member-at-Large).

Since 2018, Digital Literacy AG has operated the ECDL certification in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. ECDL-SI has donated its shares (100% of Digital Literacy AG) to the Swiss Informatics Foundation, which is now the sole owner of Digital Literacy AG
